Upcycling/Recycling and baby presents :)

We have added to the family a 1969 VW Kombi and she is brilliant. This is nicks new project and he has a fair amount of work to do!!! She came all the way from Tasmania and her name is Kenny :)

Kenny is going to get a huge revamp done to her- new colour, new seats, new floors, new ceiling and eventually a new engine!! I think the other two cars are a little jealous of her funkiness!! She is going to be our sunday driving car and nicks windsurfing cart around car and possibly take the kids to school car. She is going to be an awesome addition to our house in Palmyra- when we eventually get move back to Perth :) Will keep you tuned in with her progress.

My friend recently had a little baby girl called Imogen and this is what I made her:

We have had so many friends having babies at the moment that thinking of new and different things to buy them is hard work now. So I thought why not make something and so I did.... A personalised little blanket. I hope little Imogen likes it :)

I keep looking for new things to play with and do and I have come across the easyness of making yo-yo's. They are dead easy to do and pretty effective when you add a button in the middle. You can buy them from most craft shops and they come in an array of sizes- this one is a large size. I decided to make a necklace of yo-yos for Lucy's onesie.

So I went through my wardrobe and realised that there are many items of clothing that I love but don't wear for various reasons. I have always loved this beautiful lili maxi dress that I bought a few years back but I have never worn it because I hated the fact that the top part was too small and the halter digged into my neck. So I decided to get rid of the top part and have it as a skirt. As I finished reconstructing my dress, the skirt was then too long so I removed a layer of material from the bottom and this is now what I have:

I now have a lovely maxi skirt that I can wear and a bonus scarf!!! I love scarves :) So there was enough fabric to make two scarves and seeing as though I only need one - who would like the other. The first person to comment that they 1. love my blog (haha jokes!!) and 2. they would like the scarf will have a scarf sent to them with love :)

Sewing,Sewing,Sewing

I have decided to introduce you to my sewing friends- Stella the sewing machine and Audrey the overlocker. Without them I wouldn't be making my little creations!!! Say hello:

The lastest things I have delightedly ( yes that is a word- I didn't get red underlined for it!!) created are more clothes for Lucy and myself and a crochet hook holder. Nick brought me the range of clover crochet hooks for my birthday and I needed a funky place to store them- so I gathered some rather retro looking material and sewed one up. Do you like? 

I also have started making Lucy some clothes. She is now growing out of the clothes that she has millions of and she needs some more funky clothes to keep up with the fashion stakes of being a little baby (only kidding!!!). Basically I need to funkify her wardrobe again. So I'm going to make her clothes that no-one else will have because being my daughter we like to be a little original at times :) So I have learnt the skill of smocking (very basic smocking may I add) and created a beautiful little dress out of liberty fabric (I think it is the material that makes this awesome)-

I have also made my little monkey a cute little top with some lace detailing. I made the top a little too short- so note to self make it longer next time, but it is still cute with a little onesie underneath and a pair of shorts. The best thing about making clothes for your little one is that 1. it's easy as 2. it's something that no-one else will have 3. sense of satisfaction that you have made cute clothing for your monkey and 4. it's so much cheaper than buying it. Ticks all the boxes I think!!

And not only have I been making clothes for Lucy but i have made  some for me-  cause I can :)

I have made two dresses- 1. I altered a basic shift dress pattern to make a sleeveless shirt dress amde from divine Kaffe Fasset material-

2. I turned a long skirt that I made and then decided that I didn't like it into a shift dress with pockets and gorgeous Liberty material- 

 LOVE

And the last thing that i want to show you is my wrist bands that I have made from my scrap material bag braided with leather- I quite like them. they are so easy to make and they are pretty funky on!!

Lucy Blanket & Tote Bag

When I was a little baby, I had a blanket that had a satin border around it. I loved it so much that the satin border ended up being a huge ball in one corner of the blanket. It was the satin feel that I loved and I use to rub in between my fingers. So I decided to make Lucy a blanket with a satin border and see if she does the same thing!!

I have also made a Tote Bag out fabric that I had lying around- as you can never gave too many Tote Bags. They are so easy to make and a funky way to put your groceries in, or baby stuff or pretty much anything.

And here is an updated picture of my "circles in a square" crochet blanket- do you like?

The finished quilt and a bit more!!!

I started this quilt about a few years back and I finished it at the end of last year!! Thats what happens when I decide to hand stitch it with limited spare time. However it is now finished and draped over the spare bed. I'm thinking the next quilt will be machine stitched :) The fabric is Amy Butler and I was given a fair few fat quarter bundles from mum- so I decided to do this with plenty of fabric left over to make other little beauties!!
So here it is:

Another little thing that mum and I did before Lucy was born was reapholster my glider chair. I picked the chair form one of the local baby shops in Perth and loved the frame but didn't like the brown corded fabric that accompanied it! So I picked out some furnishing fabric and away we went and this is the end product:

A few more projects that I have done :)

I had a fair amount of time off before Lucy was born and we stayed at my parents house, so being the daughter of a very creative mum we made a few things for Lucy. We made a heap of beautiful wraps courtesy of mums shop Calico and Ivy that Lucy gets cuddled in every day and we also made this- a play mat for Lucy (again fabric form Calico and Ivy!!)

I get complimented on this blanket every time I pull it out for Lucy at mothers group.

I also made this shell canvas for Lucy and it is up in her nursery- very simple to do, just head to your favourite beach and grab some lovely shells, pull out the super glue from the draw and head out to an art/craft shop or simple just to Red Dot and grab yourself a canvas and voila you have yourself a shell canvas that looks pretty fantastic in your baby's nursery :)

When I was down in Perth I had to have my op-shopping fix as the op-shops in Perth are sooo much better then Karratha and I found some gorgeous lamp bases for only $5 each- Bargain!! So I bought a simple lamp shade and covered it with some fabric that complimented Lucy's colour scheme in her nursery. Here is the end product:

Yesterday was my 28th birthday and I finally was able to get my shoes that I have been drooling over for weeks!! I bought them from esty.com and they are marvellous- Love them!! I liked them so much that I had to have them in two colours!! They are ever so comfy as well. My husband also spoilt me with a Tiffany & Co. wallet- it's too good to use, but have to bite the bullet and do the swap :)

I had a great day with my little family :) Lucy and I went down to Dampier (again!!) for coffee and lunch under the palms and then skype with the family back in Perth and had some very tasty Arras champagne with Nick- was the perfect day :)

Crochet goodies for Lucy!!

Well I have discovered the wonderful world of crocheting, thanks to my mum, and I'm hooked (pardon the pun). You can literally crochet anything and it's soooo easy once you get the basics and techniques down pat. So I have made my beautiful little Lucy some booties and a beanie for when we go down to perth soon, seeing as though it's going to be freezing for us both!!

I have also discovered the world of button making, so on Lucy's booties I have made the buttons as well. It's amazing what you can create when you put your mind to it and it's such a sense of achievement that you have made things yourself. Living in a world of disposable goods, it's so nice to see so many people creating and making things themselves these days :)
So now I am starting on a "Circles in a square" crochet blanket- looking forward to the end result.

This is what I'm wearing today- I bought this skirt secondhand from someone in Karratha and I absolutely love it- so I bought the same skirt in black from the same person. It fits perfectly with a breastfeeding singlet and white skirt and perfect for the windy days we are having up here at the moment.

Next post I'll show you my new shoes- however I have to wait till tomorrow to get them as they are my birthday present. So back to the blanket we go and playing with Lucy :)

Dress Ups!!

I love my clothes and now that I'm breast feeding I find it really restricting in what I can wear. So when I have the chance or when Lucy is asleep or happy to play on the bed, I go through my wardrobe and put an outfit on and take a photo of myself. I have then decided to dress up in clothes that I can breast feed in and I will start posting them on my blog-don't ask me why I just feel like doing it!!
I also have an addiction to the hipstamatic app on my phone so for the time being the photos are done in what I think is super duper!!!
Most of the outfits I put on I can't wear up in Karratha because it's a country town and if I walk around the shops looking like this I will stick out like a sore thumb. So bring on the day when we eventually move back to Perth :)
